Real Madrid and Leganés finalized an agreement on Thursday afternoon for the transfer of young defender Lamini Fati. After completing the necessary medical tests, Fati is officially a Real Madrid player for the next five seasons.
A physical issue that kept Fati out of his last match of the year sped up the operation, which was finalized for around €120,000, plus additional variables payable to Leganés based on the player's future success at Real Madrid.
Real Madrid's academy directors were keen to avoid triggering Fati's release clause and preferred to reach a mutual agreement with Leganés, maintaining the strong relationship between the two clubs.
Born in Madrid to an Angolan mother and a father from Guinea-Bissau, Lamini Fati stands out for his physical strength. The 18-year-old central defender, who is 1.80 meters tall, initially joined Leganés as a cadet. Though he may start with the youth team, his first assignment will be with Real Madrid C, with future opportunities based on his performance and team needs in the coming months.
Fati is set to begin training at Valdebebas on Friday, though his debut will have to wait until January, when the transfer market officially opens.
