Real Madrid has issued a strong statement condemning the remarks made by the referees assigned to officiate Saturday’s Copa del Rey final against Barcelona. The club published the message on its official website, criticizing what it sees as an unacceptable public stance taken just 24 hours before one of the season's most anticipated matches.
In the statement, Real Madrid denounced the referees’ decision to single out content produced by Real Madrid TV—a media outlet protected by freedom of expression—as a direct attack on the club. “These remarks, oddly timed and deliberately made the day before the final, reflect a clear and recurring hostility toward Real Madrid,” the club stated.
The club took particular issue with what it described as “threatening language,” pointing to comments made about the refereeing community’s unity and implied future actions. According to Madrid, such rhetoric “falls far short of the fairness, objectivity, and impartiality that should define officiating—especially ahead of a global event like the Copa del Rey final.”
Real Madrid concluded its message by calling on the leadership of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the refereeing committee to take action. The club urged those in charge to uphold the integrity of their institutions and respond appropriately to what it sees as a damaging and biased stance from the referees involved.
