Isidro Díaz de Mera's refereeing during Real Madrid's match against Villarreal came under heavy criticism, with his performance deteriorating after the break and his disciplinary decisions drawing particular attention. Real Madrid were shown more cards than their opponents, including a red card for Vinicius Junior, despite the club's complaints about the number of fouls committed against them.

The referee's decisions frustrated both the players and José Mourinho, who repeatedly demanded explanations. However, rather than engaging in dialogue, Díaz de Mera continued issuing yellow cards, several of which were considered controversial by the Madrid camp.

One of the most disputed incidents involved Ibrahima Konaté. The French defender challenged Gerard Moreno in a one-on-one situation and appeared to win the ball cleanly. Díaz de Mera, however, interpreted the action as a slap to the striker's face and showed Konaté a yellow card. According to the report, replays indicate that the defender did not make contact with Moreno.

As reported by Marca, Real Madrid are preparing to appeal the booking to the Technical Committee of Referees, seeking to have it overturned. The club is concerned about the potential consequences, as Konaté would be just one yellow card away from a suspension if the booking stands.

Should the appeal fail and the defender receive another yellow card against Sevilla, he would be suspended for the subsequent clash with Barcelona, potentially ruling him out of El Clásico.
