It was only a matter of time before Álex Jiménez officially became a Bournemouth player. Under Andoni Iraola, the Spanish right-back has developed into one of the most promising young defenders in the Premier League, and after just 22 appearances, the English club has decided to secure his future permanently.

Bournemouth initially signed the 20-year-old — a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy — on loan last summer in a deal worth €1.5 million. Now, the Cherries have activated the agreed purchase clause, paying €20 million fixed plus €5 million in add-ons to AC Milan. The club made the announcement clear: “He’s officially ours.”

Jiménez had already met the condition of playing at least 18 matches this season, but beyond that clause, it was his performances and rapid adaptation to English football that convinced the club. Despite his limited top-level experience, he has shown maturity and consistency, with Iraola praising his steady development, stating that he is “improving with every game.” The defender has signed a five-and-a-half-year contract, tying him to Bournemouth until 2031.

As reported in November, Real Madrid lost their right of first refusal on the player. However, Los Blancos will still benefit financially from the operation. AC Milan will receive the first €5 million of the transfer fee, but Madrid — who sold Jiménez to the Rossoneri for €5 million in 2024 — are entitled to 50% of the remaining amount. In total, the Spanish giants are set to earn close to €13 million from the transfer.
