Real Madrid continues to voice its discontent over what it views as unfair refereeing, once again pointing to the disparity in red-card decisions compared to Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid. The current figures — Barcelona at +62 and Real Madrid at -2 in red-card balance — remain a constant reference for analyzing incidents this season.

“Week after week, we see how Spanish referees apply the criteria for sending-offs,” begins the latest Real Madrid TV video. “In just six matchdays, a Madrid player has been unfairly sent off, a Barcelona player has escaped two red cards, and most recently, Koke’s aggression went unpunished in Atlético’s match against Rayo Vallecano. These are the kinds of situations that explain why Madrid has the worst red-card record in LaLiga this century.”

The video also revisits controversial incidents: “Huijsen’s sending-off at Anoeta was inexplicable. Gil Manzano showed him a straight red despite him not being the last man, and VAR didn’t intervene. Even the CTA later admitted the mistake. Meanwhile, in Barcelona’s games, Raphinha avoided two expulsions: first, for a reckless tackle against a Mallorca player, and then for pushing a Getafe opponent off the ball. In both cases, VAR remained silent.”

The program also highlights the contrasting treatment of incidents involving Vinicius and Koke. “At the Metropolitano, Koke grabbed the Rayo goalkeeper by the neck and threw him to the ground. No red card was shown, and VAR didn’t check the play. Compare that with what happened to Vinicius at Mestalla last season for a similar action — VAR did intervene, but failed to show the provocation from the goalkeeper. Vini ended up being sent off. The same pattern has appeared in previous seasons, when VAR provided biased images, something even confirmed by a referee.”
