Celta left the field frustrated, criticizing referee Munuera Montero and VAR official Hernández Hernández, believing key decisions were mishandled and could have altered the match’s outcome. The next day, Atlético Madrid's manager, Diego Simeone, was asked about these controversial decisions in a press conference, and he responded, “I didn’t see the game, but they told me there were episodes like there have been for a hundred years. I don’t know what surprises them.”

Simeone was specifically referring to a possible penalty on Celta before Mbappé’s goal, a handball by Rüdiger in the box, and potential red cards for Endrick and Valverde.

Real Madrid TV quickly responded to Simeone’s comments. Presenter Jesús Alcaide expressed concerns about the upcoming LaLiga showdown with Atlético, saying: “I’m a little worried because La Liga is back, and it looks like it will be a one-on-one with Atlético, as long as Barcelona doesn’t react—a team quite favored by the refereeing system.”
