Journalist Jorge C. Picon claims that Real Madrid are getting closer to giving Lucas Vazquez a one-year extension that would keep him at the Santiago Bernabeu until 2025.

The Spaniard has demonstrated that he is capable of playing one more strong season of football thanks to his professionalism and strong performances when Carlo Ancelotti most needed them.

Vazquez has performed admirably at right-back, both during the injury-enforced absence of Dani Carvajal and more lately when the latter has been employed as a center-back. This season, he has played 23 games (1,007 minutes), contributing with four assists and a goal.

Vazquez is viewed in Valdebebas as a model professional who understands how to fit in with the club; he is one of those unseen leaders in the locker room who keeps everyone together.

Now that the club is prepared to extend the contract, Vazquez has complete control over his future plans.

Although Vazquez has not been playing as well as he would have liked this season, the 32-year-old is content in Madrid and grateful to the club. As his career approaches its end, the Spaniard is debating whether to try his luck somewhere else or to carry on leaving his mark at the club that he views as "home."
