Real Madrid have reached out to their fans attending the return leg of the Champions League Round of 16 at the Metropolitano stadium on Wednesday, offering a safety warning regarding the area around Atlético de Madrid’s stadium. In an email, the club advised fans to avoid openly displaying Real Madrid gear, such as shirts and other merchandise, until they are in a secure area or inside the stadium.
The communication also warned against using Metro Line 7, which serves the Metropolitano Stadium and is primarily used by Atlético fans, suggesting alternative routes for a safer journey. Real Madrid, in collaboration with the National Police, has designated Plaza de Céfiro, near the Canillejas Metro stop on Line 5, as the meeting point for fans. From this location, about a 25-minute walk from the stadium, fans will gather around 6:30 p.m. before walking the 1.8-kilometer route to the stadium, escorted by the National Police.
Real Madrid supporters will undergo a thorough security check upon arrival at the Metropolitano, where Atlético de Madrid’s private security will inspect all belongings, including scarves, flags, and any potentially dangerous objects such as lighters.
After the match, fans will remain in the designated area for visitors inside the stadium for over an hour to ensure their safety. Once the surrounding areas are clear, they will be escorted back to Plaza de Céfiro, from where they can continue their journey independently.
