Aymeric Laporte has emerged as Real Madrid's top option to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season. The Spain international came into consideration shortly after Leny Yoro's signing with Manchester United was confirmed.

Guillermo Rai, a journalist from The Athletic, confirmed this development: "Last week, there were discussions among Real Madrid's decision-makers. Laporte's name was brought up as a center-back candidate now that Leny Yoro has joined Manchester United."

The coaching staff has expressed their approval: "Carlo Ancelotti has been directly consulted, and the coaching staff holds a very positive opinion of Laporte. They believe he is top-notch and capable of meeting Real Madrid's demands," Rai added.

However, signing Laporte will not be straightforward. "Laporte has a net salary of 20 million euros, but two key factors must be considered. Al-Nassr paid 27 million euros for him last year. From a tax perspective, since Laporte has not spent six months living in Saudi Arabia, he cannot be considered a tax resident there. Therefore, if he joins a Spanish team, he would likely have to pay taxes as if he lived in Spain," Rai explained.

Another challenge is Laporte's salary, which Real Madrid views as a significant hurdle, despite Laporte expressing a desire to leave Saudi Arabia some time ago," Rai concluded.
