Roberto Carlos da Silva has been hospitalized in Brazil after doctors detected a heart problem while he was on vacation in his home country. The former Real Madrid defender, now 52, initially underwent medical tests for a minor blood clot in his leg. During those checks, a full-body MRI revealed an issue with his heart that required immediate attention.

He was promptly admitted to hospital to undergo surgery for the insertion of a catheter. The procedure was expected to last around 40 minutes but extended to nearly three hours due to a complication during the operation. Despite the setback, the intervention was ultimately successful. Roberto Carlos, who currently serves as a Real Madrid ambassador, is now out of danger but remains under close medical supervision.

Doctors have decided to keep him under observation for an additional 48 hours to ensure his recovery continues without issues. AS contacted both the former footballer and people close to him to calm concerns among fans. “I’m fine now,” Roberto Carlos assured.
