Rodrygo is in sensational form for Real Madrid, and in recent weeks, he has become one of the team's most reliable attacking options. Ahead of Real Madrid’s Champions League clash against Atlético de Madrid, the Brazilian forward gave an exclusive interview to UEFA's official channels, where he discussed his love for the prestigious competition and his journey at the club.
Speaking about the Champions League, Rodrygo shared: "I always say that the Champions League is a tournament I love and one where I always perform well. It holds a special place for me because things usually go very well in this competition. I'm having an incredible season in the Champions League, and I want to keep contributing to my team."
Another topic of discussion revolved around the potential transfer rumors linking top players, including him and Vinicius, to Saudi Arabia. Rodrygo, however, was clear: "Playing alongside Mbappé and Vini Jr. is very special. It’s a dream to play with such great players and be part of that attacking trio. Every day we grow closer, and our chemistry improves. This is only the beginning—we have a beautiful story to write together." On his life in Madrid, he added: "I love Madrid, and I love living here. It’s my favorite city, along with São Paulo and Santos, where I’m from. Playing for Real Madrid has always been my dream, so I’m completely happy."
Rodrygo also spoke fondly of his relationship with coach Carlo Ancelotti: "We have a special bond, and he’s helped me a lot since day one. I remember our early training sessions and all the advice he gave me. What I admire most is how he treats people. He’s a fantastic human being, and despite the challenges of managing a squad like ours, he treats everyone with respect and balance."
Looking ahead to the Madrid derby against Atlético, Rodrygo highlighted the intensity of the fixture: "Games against Atlético have a different atmosphere. They are derbies, and the rivalry between the two biggest teams in the city makes them special."
Rodrygo also took a moment to express his admiration for Luka Modric, who has been a mentor to him: "Luka and I have always had a great relationship. He’s the same age as my father, so we joke that he calls me son, and I call him dad. Modric was always one of my favorite players growing up, and playing alongside him has been a dream come true. He helps me every day, both on and off the pitch."
