In an interview with Diario AS, Rodrygo revealed that before joining Real Madrid, he had actually been on the verge of signing for their biggest rivals, Barcelona.

“Before signing for Real Madrid, everything was already done, and I had signed for Barça — it’s true,” the Brazilian forward admitted. “But then my father told me Real Madrid had called, and I had to make a choice. For me, it was very easy. I knew what I wanted and what my dream was. I didn’t even hesitate. And here I am.”

Rodrygo went on to explain that while at Santos, he was attracting attention from top clubs. “Barça came for me, and I’ve always said it’s a great club that I respect a lot. But Real Madrid was my dream. My decision was easy — I couldn’t wait any longer for Real Madrid, and when the time came, we did things the right way.”

The 24-year-old joined Los Blancos in 2019 for a reported €45 million, and since then, he has become a key figure for the team, contributing to three La Liga titles, two Champions League trophies, and several other honors.
