Real Madrid and Spanish basketball legend Rudy Fernandez announced that the 2023-24 season is going to be his final on the courts.

Rudy will finish the season with Real Madrid, and then he will play for Spain in the summer, at least in the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which will be held in Valencia. If they qualify, he aims to represent his country in the Olympics.

"This is ending; the time is coming to think about things other than basketball," he declared. "I want to enjoy the remaining months. Retirement is a difficult and impactful word when you hear it. But my goal is to play in another Olympics."

Fernandez, 39, began his professional path in 2002. The former Trail Blazers and Nuggets forward has been playing for Real Madrid since the 2012-13 season. He won 25 titles with Los Blancos including three EuroLeague and six Spanish ACB League titles.

On the international level, Rudy Fernandez is a two-time FIBA World Cup winner (2006, 2019), four-time FIBA EuroBasket champion (2009, 2011, 2015, 2022), and three-time Olympic medalist (silver in 2008, silver in 2012, and bronze in 2016).
