Real Madrid is reportedly targeting Sam Dekker, a 30-year-old, 2.03-metre power forward, as they seek reinforcements. Dekker, currently on a temporary contract with Joventut that runs until January 18, could fill the '4' shooter position that Real Madrid has struggled to replace since Guerschon Yabusele's unexpected departure to the NBA.

Dekker initially joined Joventut in mid-November on a one-month deal, later extended on December 18. His strong performances, brought on by injuries in the '4' position, have played a crucial role in Joventut's near qualification for the Copa del Rey.

In his seven games in the Endesa League, Dekker is averaging 14.3 points, shooting 52% from two-point range and 50% from three-point range, along with 5.4 rebounds and a PIR of 15. Although he missed Sunday's match at Palau, his last three games (victories against Leyma Coruña, Hiopos Lleida, and Dreamland Gran Canaria) saw him amass 65 points with 15/25 in three-pointers, 20 rebounds, and a PIR of 78.

Due to Dekker's impressive form and high salary, Joventut initially thought they would not be able to keep him. While they extended his contract for another month, his performances have attracted attention from top clubs, including Real Madrid.

However, Real Madrid faces a challenge regarding his non-EU player status. His arrival would require Chus Mateo to rotate between Dekker, Gabriel Deck (currently injured), and Xavier Rathan-Mayes for ACB competitions. An alternative solution could involve the departure of Rathan-Mayes, whom the club has already considered in other operations.

Dekker has significant NBA experience, having played 201 games over six seasons with the Rockets, Clippers, Cavaliers, Wizards, and Raptors, averaging 5.5 points and 3.0 rebounds. After failing to establish himself in the NBA, he moved to Europe to play for Lokomotiv Kuban. He has also played for Turk Telekom and Bahcesehir Koleji in Turkey and the London Lions, where he excelled in the EuroCup and was named MVP of the British Basketball League.
