Real Madrid’s basketball team earned a hard-fought and much-needed win against Zalgiris with a tight 100-99 finish. After the game, Sergio Scariolo spoke very openly in the press conference, even sending a veiled message to one of his players, although he did not mention any names.

“If you are a professional, if you respect the shirt, your team, and your teammates, you never switch off. You can play better or worse, you can be more or less accurate, you can go through a dip in form or not, but switching off is a risk,” Scariolo explained. “I am not the one who has to motivate the players. My job is to help them, improve them, correct them, and manage the team. But individual motivation is up to each player, and I am convinced that every player on this team tries to do that, because it is their obligation in many ways. Sometimes it works, and sometimes it doesn’t,” the Real Madrid coach added.

To make his point even clearer, Scariolo continued: “Right now, there are players who are not in great form, while others are, and they help us win. It is important for us to recognize and congratulate those who come off the bench and impact the game with pride, love for the team, and commitment. They must come in and give 100 percent, regardless of what they are going through individually.”

He then addressed the specific case of David Kramer: “He is going through a period where his shots are not falling. We expect him to first recover his rhythm and confidence in training every day, and then in games. I know he can regain the high shooting percentage he has shown before.”
