Dani Carvajal's injury has left Real Madrid in a challenging situation. With the Spanish international sidelined and David Alaba still recovering, Carlo Ancelotti is left with just Militao, Rüdiger, Tchouaméni, and Vallejo (who is not currently counted on) for the backline, and Lucas Vázquez covering at right-back. This has raised concerns about Real Madrid’s defensive depth for the rest of the season, intensifying discussions about possible reinforcements in the January transfer window, particularly after the setback with Carvajal.

Historically, Real Madrid rarely makes signings during the winter window. However, the current situation at Valdebebas is seen as both unique and pressing. As a result, despite initial hesitations, the club has reportedly agreed with Ancelotti to actively seek defensive solutions in January, according to Mario Cortegana from The Athletic.

Cortegana also revealed that Real Madrid has identified seven potential signings. For the right-back position, Trent Alexander-Arnold remains the top priority, but other options such as Juanlu (Sevilla), Pedro Porro (Tottenham), and Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen) are also being considered.

In addition to bolstering the right side, Real Madrid is eyeing three left-footed centre-backs to strengthen the heart of their defence. The list includes young talents like 18-year-old Vitor Reis (Palmeiras) and 21-year-old Castello Lukeba (RB Leipzig), as well as a more experienced option in Aymeric Laporte (Al-Nassr), who has been looking to leave Saudi Arabia to join Real Madrid since the summer.
