Real Madrid have reportedly reached an agreement with Liverpool to finalize the early departure of Trent Alexander-Arnold before June 30. The club is eager to ensure that the English right-back is available for Xabi Alonso’s squad ahead of the FIFA Club World Cup.
Despite not participating in the tournament themselves, Liverpool initially resisted the early release, frustrated by the fact that they wouldn’t receive a transfer fee under normal contract expiry. However, Real Madrid will resolve the issue by paying €5 million in financial compensation to the Premier League side.
As revealed by journalist Josep Pedrerol on El Chiringuito de Jugones, the deal clears the way for Alexander-Arnold to join Real Madrid’s summer training and be eligible for the Club World Cup. This makes him Los Blancos’ second signing of the summer, following the arrival of Dean Huijsen.
And the transfer activity may not be over just yet. Álvaro Carreras is now “very close” to becoming Real Madrid’s third and final addition before the tournament in the United States. His signing could be made official in the coming days, rounding out Xabi Alonso’s desired squad for his first major challenge at the helm.
