Chus Mateo is without a doubt one of the outstanding winners of Real Madrid's eleventh Euroleague title. The coach, who took over from Pablo Laso after a dramatic dismissal, has faced criticism for much of the season, but the victory in Kaunas crowned a great final sprint.
Edy Tavares, the Final Four MVP, was asked to accompany the coach at the post-game press conference and did not hesitate to speak up in support of Mateo. "You should apologize to him," he started.
"From August until now, he has been the one who has believed in us. He more than anyone else deserves it. Because he is one of the most wonderful people I have ever met", declared the center as his coach fought to hold back tears at his side.
