JJ Gabriel has yet to sign for Real Madrid, but he already knows which club he wants to represent. MARCA presented the 16-year-old English striker with a copy of the newspaper featuring the news of his imminent move to the Spanish giants on the front page. It was already a special moment for a player who, until recently, was training in Manchester United's academy. However, the best part came when he was asked one of the most traditional questions in Spanish football: Real Madrid or Barcelona? Gabriel's answer was clear: "Obviously Real Madrid."
The short and decisive response has delighted Real Madrid supporters and confirmed what had been suspected in recent weeks. Barcelona were among the clubs that pursued the youngster until the final stages of the race, believing they could offer him a quicker route to the first team. However, Gabriel chose Real Madrid's project, with the club also beating competition from PSG, Bayern Munich, Manchester City and Chelsea.
With those words, Gabriel has already taken a step towards winning over the Bernabéu faithful before even putting on the white shirt. The deal is awaiting signatures and an official announcement, after which the striker is expected to begin his time at Real Madrid Castilla, where José Mourinho and his coaching staff will closely follow his development.
The road to the first team will be long and demanding, with considerable competition in attack and plenty of room for the young forward to develop. However, Gabriel has already made his feelings clear. If his performances match the conviction of his words, Real Madrid fans will have plenty of reasons to be excited. JJ Gabriel knows exactly what he wants: "Obviously Real Madrid."
