Nacho Fernández will not be able to fulfill his great desire to become a One Club Man. The youth player and captain of Real Madrid has finally decided to leave the team, thus missing the chance to join the select list of footballers who have only worn the Madrid team's shirt. This list is so exclusive that it is practically a relic of the last century.
Only four players have worn the Real Madrid shirt from start to finish without ever donning another team's jersey during their career. One of these players is still linked to the club, though not as a footballer. With Nacho's departure, the list remains firmly at four and is unlikely to expand anytime soon.
The most recent addition to this exclusive group was Manolo Sanchís, who retired in 2001 after debuting in 1983 and playing 710 games for Real Madrid. Chendo, another member of this club, played for Real Madrid from 1981 to 1998 and has continued his association with the club in various capacities. José Antonio Camacho, a legend of Spanish football, wore the Madrid shirt from 1973 to 1989. The first to achieve this feat was José María Zárraga, who played for the club from 1951 to 1962 and helped lift the club's first five European Cups.
