Real Madrid vice-president Pedro López delivered a notable remark during the Assembly while defending both the club's president, Florentino Pérez, and coach Carlo Ancelotti, who holds the record for the most Champions League titles with four. López compared their achievements with Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City coach, who has won only one European Cup in the last decade.
“To win six Champions Leagues in ten years, you need a strong economy. Bayern Munich also has a healthy economy, yet they have only won one in the last ten years,” López explained, before taking a swipe at Guardiola, who recently extended his contract with City until 2026, with an option for an additional year.
"City have Guardiola, the so-called inventor of football, but in the past decade, they’ve only won one Champions League," he added, referencing last year’s final in Istanbul, where Rodri Hernández scored the decisive goal.
López wrapped up his speech with a final tribute to Florentino Pérez: "You also need great players—Paris Saint-Germain had them, but they won nothing. The only logical explanation for our success is having a president named Florentino Pérez."
