The transfer of Álvaro Morata to AC Milan will bring some additional benefits to Real Madrid, which are always welcome. According to the latest information, the Italian club will pay Atlético Madrid the Spanish international's release clause, which amounts to €15 million. Out of this amount, 5% (€750,000) must be reserved for 'training rights,' which are shared among the clubs that developed the striker.
FIFA’s Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players establish that 5% of the transfer fee is allocated for 'training rights' to the teams where the player trained between the ages of 12 and 16, and 10% to the clubs where he played between the ages of 16 and 23 (with percentages for each season). Since Morata played for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2014 (ages 16-21), Los Blancos are the 'training' club that will benefit the most from his transfer to Milan.
Specifically, for the five seasons Morata spent at Valdebebas, Real Madrid will receive 50% of the €750,000 reserved for training rights, plus another 5% corresponding to the 2008-2009 season when he was still 15 years old. This means the Merengue club will pocket a total of €412,500.
Additionally, Juventus, where Morata played for two seasons when he was 22 and 23 years old, will receive €150,000, and Getafe, where he played during the 2007-2008 season, will receive €37,500. The rest will go to Atlético Madrid, as the striker belonged to their youth academy before moving to Getafe’s and later to Real Madrid’s system. Real Madrid had already benefited from Morata's transfers in the past, earning approximately €20 million from his move to Juventus in 2014, another €66 million from his transfer to Chelsea in 2017, and €962,500 from his signing by Atlético in 2020.
