Mario Cortegana, a journalist for The Athletic, addressed several questions from his followers in a video on his YouTube channel. One question focused on Rodrigo Hernández and his potential move to Real Madrid.
"There are people close to Rodri who have said, 'How strange that Real Madrid is the only big club in Europe that has never been interested in him.' They expressed this with a tone of surprise and disappointment. There have been no approaches or inquiries. The club usually shows interest in many players, but that hasn't been the case with him, which seemed surprising to them," Cortegana explained.
The Athletic journalist continued: "I would love for Real Madrid to sign him, but I don't see it happening. Rodri has a contract with Manchester City until 2027. If Guardiola leaves in 2025 or 2026, there might be some movement, but not a major upheaval. We need to see how Guardiola's departure and any potential sanctions against the English club would impact players' ability to leave. Rodri is 28 now, and he would be 29 next year, which is around the age limit that Real Madrid considers," he noted.
"I don't rule it out, though. I would bring him in because, despite being older than the typical Bernabéu signing, he reminds me of acquisitions like Alaba or Rüdiger. If he could come at a favorable price, I would consider it. It would be like taking one of City's leaders," Cortegana concluded.
