Théo Maledon is set to join Real Madrid for the upcoming season, according to sources close to the club and Euroleague teams that had expressed interest in the Asvel Villeurbanne player throughout December.

Maledon was already on Real Madrid's radar as they sought reinforcements following injuries to Musa and Feliz. However, Asvel was unwilling to let go of the 23-year-old, who signed last summer and has become a key figure for the French team. Instead, Real Madrid has opted to secure Maledon’s services for the summer of 2025. The agreement, which was finalized recently, will see the point guard sign a long-term contract, including a significant NBA release clause.

Standing 1.93 meters tall, Maledon primarily plays as a shooting guard but is highly effective with the ball, thanks to his playmaking ability and scoring prowess. Six years ago, he made headlines as the top scorer at the Next Generation Tournament in L'Hospitalet, averaging 26 points per game at just 17 years old. His performance caught the attention of NBA scouts, and he was selected 34th overall in the 2020 NBA Draft. However, it quickly became clear that he was not fully ready for the NBA stage.

In his first season with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Maledon saw significant playing time, but his role diminished over the next two seasons, and he was released by the Phoenix Suns in March 2023. Last August, he signed a one-year deal with Asvel. His form steadily improved throughout the season, and by December, he was shining in the Euroleague, earning MVP honors for the month with averages of 21 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists per game.

Maledon is seen as the ideal backcourt partner to complement Campazzo at Real Madrid.
