Thibaut Courtois has kept a clean sheet in all six competitive matches since recovering from a serious knee injury that sidelined him last season. A year ago, on August 17, the Belgian goalkeeper underwent surgery after injuring his left knee during a training session at Valdebebas, just before the start of the league. The incident led to nearly 250 days of recovery, followed by another 40 days due to a meniscus injury in his other knee in March, just as he was on the verge of returning. Both Courtois and Ancelotti were confident that he would reclaim his starting spot, which was confirmed on May 4 against Cádiz at the Bernabéu.
It quickly became evident that Courtois would be the goalkeeper in the Champions League final at Wembley, overshadowing the impressive performances of Lunin, particularly his heroic display at the Etihad.
In Warsaw, Courtois made a save reminiscent of his pre-injury brilliance. Early in the second half, with the score tied at 0-0, a powerful header from Mario Pasalic looked destined for the net, but Real Madrid's number 1, with a spectacular leap, managed to tip the ball over for a corner, preserving the deadlock and celebrating as if it were a goal. Courtois acknowledged the difficulty of the save after the match, saying, "When you make a save like that, you celebrate it and store it in your mind to remember the good moments. It was very difficult and came at a crucial moment with the score at 0-0."
Since his return from injury, Courtois has not conceded a single goal, proving that he remains the best goalkeeper in the world.
