UEFA's appeals body has ordered the partial closure of the Santiago Bernabéu stadium for a two-year probationary period due to discriminatory behavior by Real Madrid fans during their last Champions League match against Manchester City.
The sanction, in line with Article 14 (2) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations, mandates the closure of at least 500 seats during the next European competition home match played by Real Madrid. The probation period will last two years from today’s date.
Additionally, Real Madrid has been fined 30,000 euros for the discriminatory actions of their fans during the second leg of the Round of 16, played on the 19th, in which they defeated Manchester City 3-1 to secure qualification.
UEFA’s decision clarifies that disciplinary measures during probation are not immediately enforced but may be applied if a similar violation occurs within the probation period, as outlined in Article 26, paragraph 3, of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations.
