Valencia CF has formally demanded an immediate correction from the production company behind the Netflix documentary Baila, Vini, which premiered on May 15 and chronicles the life and career of Vinicius Junior. The club claims the documentary presents an “unfair” and “false” portrayal of the events that took place at Mestalla Stadium on May 21, 2023, during a La Liga match.
The incident in question centers on allegations of racist abuse directed at Vinicius, which became a major national and international controversy. Valencia insists the documentary misrepresents the facts, unfairly tarnishing the image of the club’s supporters.
A specific point of contention is a video clip featured in the documentary, originally published on TikTok, where the crowd can be heard chanting "stupid, stupid." However, the subtitles in the film translate it as "monkey, monkey", echoing the initial interpretation of Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid’s manager at the time, who later corrected his statement.
Valencia released an official statement on their X (formerly Twitter) account, declaring: “In defense of the injustice and falsehoods committed against Valencia fans, the club has demanded in writing an immediate rectification from the documentary’s producers.”
They emphasized that “truth and respect for our fans must prevail,” and warned that the club reserves the right to pursue legal action if necessary to protect its reputation and that of its fanbase.
While Baila, Vini explores both the professional and personal life of Vinicius Junior — including repeated episodes of racism in Spanish football — Valencia reaffirmed its stance against all forms of discrimination, but called for “fair and truthful representation” in all journalistic and audiovisual content.
