Fede Valverde spoke to Realmadrid TV after Real Madrid’s victory over Rayo Vallecano at the Bernabéu, offering his assessment of the match and the team’s current situation.
“We were coming off a very tough defeat, something no one wants in the Champions League, a competition many of us dream of winning. We wanted to change that image. Today was our first opportunity to do so, and I think we played a great game,” said the captain.
Valverde emphasized the importance of momentum but also pointed to areas that still need improvement. “Winning brings happiness and changes the energy, but for me the key thing is to keep improving and growing as a team. We need to control matches better before the 90 minutes are over. We cannot always wait for the opponent to make a mistake. We have to improve in attack and score more goals.”
He also praised the impact of the substitutes. “It was extremely important. We were playing well, but we weren’t creating many clear chances. The players who came on did so with a lot of enthusiasm. That’s what we need, everyone fully focused and working at 100%. Today, the substitutions were decisive in changing the game and helping us secure the win.”
Looking ahead, Valverde concluded, “We have to work as hard as possible and be ready for whatever the coach asks of us. We must listen and keep working both physically and tactically, because what’s coming now is the most important and exciting part of the season.”
