The Villarreal–Barcelona match, originally scheduled for December 20 in Miami, has officially been canceled. LaLiga announced that, following discussions with the event’s promoter, Relevent, the company decided to call off the match due to the uncertainty that Spain has experienced in recent weeks.
The highly controversial plan—intended to bring an official LaLiga match to U.S. soil—had faced strong criticism from players, clubs, and fans alike. In the end, the cancellation came through a unilateral decision from the promoter, effectively putting an end to one of the most debated initiatives in Spanish football this season.
