One of Real Madrid’s biggest challenges last season was the lack of chemistry between Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappé. Despite their undeniable quality, the two stars rarely shone together. Although Vinicius was often the main provider for Mbappé, their best performances seldom coincided on the pitch, and their partnership didn’t reach the level the team needed.
Yet, football statistics rarely deceive. Last season, both players scored in the same game just four times across 26 matches. This season, however, things seem to be turning around. Out of eight La Liga fixtures, Mbappé and Vinicius have already found the net together in three. It’s one fewer than the total from last year, but achieved in far fewer opportunities. Mbappé remains decisive even without being at full form, while Vinicius is enjoying the best start of his career.
Xabi Alonso appears to be unlocking what Carlo Ancelotti couldn’t — both players leading the team’s pressing and interchanging positions with fluidity and confidence. There’s still progress to be made, but it’s clear Real Madrid is beginning to reap the benefits of their partnership. When collective form dips, individual brilliance can make the difference — and when both stars shine simultaneously, it’s even better news for Los Blancos.
