Xabi Alonso is focused on leading Chelsea back to the top of the Premier League. In his first season at Stamford Bridge, the Spanish manager has made a positive impression and is gradually moving on from the disappointment of his spell at Real Madrid.
In an interview with Jamie Carragher, the former Real Madrid coach reflected on his departure from the club and admitted that his time in charge ended earlier than he had anticipated.
"I'm left with the feeling that it ended a little sooner than expected, without knowing if it was going to end well or badly. It was mid-season, when we were still in La Liga, in the Champions League, so..." Xabi lamented.
Despite the way his spell ended, Alonso holds no resentment towards Real Madrid. He described managing the club as a unique experience and explained that he prefers to look back on his time there as an opportunity to learn rather than with anger.
"Managing in Madrid is an experience. Madrid is special in every way. It's a bit different from other clubs in every way. And I learned from that, and I don't look back with anger, I look back and think: well, I tried, I tried to give my best."
