After Real Madrid’s win over Mallorca, Xabi Alonso addressed the media and was asked about the refereeing controversy surrounding Giuliano’s goal at Mendizorroza.
“I was surprised by what happened in Vitoria,” admitted the Madrid coach. “These are mistakes that simply cannot happen. We need to improve both in avoiding overuse of VAR and in making sure it is applied correctly. Not every action needs to be re-refereed, but when VAR is used, it must be done properly.”
