Xabi Alonso has already taken the reins of Real Madrid's sporting project, mapping out plans for the upcoming season and clearly communicating his intentions to the club’s hierarchy. As the new manager prepares for his debut at the Club World Cup, several transfer decisions — both incoming and outgoing — have begun to take shape.

On the signings front, the acquisition of Trent Alexander-Arnold has reportedly been finalized, providing a major boost on the right flank. In addition, Xabi Alonso has requested a new center-back and a left-back, with Dean Huijsen and Álvaro Carreras emerging as the leading candidates for those roles. A central midfielder may also be added, although that reinforcement is viewed as a longer-term decision rather than an immediate priority.

As for departures, Alonso has already made one firm decision: Real Madrid will not carry three left-backs next season. With Carreras potentially arriving from Benfica, the coach has determined that either Fran García or Ferland Mendy must be moved on. And Alonso’s preference is clear — he wants Mendy out.

According to OKDiario, the Basque manager has informed the board that Ferland Mendy is not in his plans for the 2025–26 season. The club will try to transfer the French full-back during the summer window. However, the operation won’t be easy.

Mendy recently renewed his contract through 2027 and has no intention of leaving the club, complicating efforts to offload him. Furthermore, his injury history has significantly cooled interest from top European clubs, who are hesitant to invest in a player with recurring physical setbacks.

Nonetheless, Real Madrid will actively explore offers for the 28-year-old, aiming to recoup a transfer fee while clearing space in a position where Xabi Alonso favors full-backs with pace, attacking instincts, and range — qualities that Mendy has not consistently demonstrated. While the Frenchman may want to stay, the club is officially open to negotiations for his departure.
