Xabi Alonso remains the leading candidate to take over at Real Madrid next season. While the Spaniard is still fully focused on his current duties in the Bundesliga, clarity on his future is expected soon. For now, Carlo Ancelotti continues in charge at the Santiago Bernabéu until the end of La Liga — though a potential loss to Barcelona could accelerate changes on the Madrid bench.
Only a few weeks remain before Bayer Leverkusen concludes its season. Although the German side is still mathematically in the title race, Bayern Munich is just one point away from sealing the Bundesliga, two years after their last championship. Once the season ends, Alonso could publicly announce where he will coach next. His final match in charge of the reigning champions is set for May 17 at 3:30 PM.
Ahead of the upcoming clash between Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen, Alonso faced the media and was once again asked about his links to Real Madrid. His response was firm: “I know there are many questions, but I have nothing new to say. The answer remains the same: we must wait. Communication with the club, with Simon and Fernando, has always been good—very good.”
He added: “We didn’t talk about that. We discussed several topics this morning, and there has always been a great connection and communication. Everyone is aware of everything, and there’s never been any issue. Our goal is clear: to complete the second-best season in the club’s history,” concluded Xabi Alonso, widely expected to become the next Real Madrid coach.
