Martín Zubimendi remains firmly on Real Madrid’s radar as the club continues to plan its midfield reinforcements for next season. The Real Sociedad midfielder, widely regarded as one of LaLiga’s most consistent performers, is not only admired by the club but also by incoming coach Xabi Alonso, who knows him well from their shared time at Sanse, Real Sociedad’s reserve team.

It was at Zubieta, where Alonso first saw Zubimendi’s potential, quickly promoting him toward the first team. The 25-year-old has since become a pillar in midfield and is reportedly on the verge of signing for Arsenal, where he would reunite with Mikel Merino, his national teammate from Spain’s Euro 2024-winning squad in Germany.

Although Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta is pushing to secure his signing, Xabi Alonso may play a decisive role in swaying the player toward Real Madrid. Alonso views Zubimendi as the ideal successor to Toni Kroos, whose departure left a void in the central midfield.

According to AS, while Arsenal appear to be in the lead, no agreement has been finalized, and Real Madrid remain in contention. The midfielder’s release clause is €60 million, and although Liverpool nearly signed him last season, his departure from Real Sociedad this summer is now considered inevitable, following coach Imanol Alguacil’s confirmation of his exit.

Now, the only question is: will Zubimendi end up in London or Madrid?
