Top football clubs around the world—including Real Madrid, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, and Brazilian powerhouses like Flamengo and Palmeiras—are investing heavily in advanced medical and technological infrastructure. At the heart of this transformation is Artificial Intelligence (AI), now playing a pivotal role in forecasting and preventing player injuries.

AI technology integrates a vast range of data points, from training intensity, injury history, sleep quality, and nutrition to on-field performance and even emotional well-being. Using sophisticated tools like cameras, wearable sensors, and tracking devices, clubs now collect real-time information to build detailed performance profiles for each player, offering insights far beyond traditional human analysis.

"We rely on a variety of AI-powered tools to monitor athlete health and performance,” explains Dr. Rodrigo Zogaib, Medical and Health Coordinator at Santos FC. “These include medical, physiotherapy, physiological, and nutritional evaluations. For physiological monitoring, we use thermography with Hard Square software, and we collect subjective daily data such as sleep quality and pain levels, which help us build a fatigue profile. We also track sleep patterns, hydration, weight, GPS movement, and training load. All this data is processed through a system that generates alerts, allowing for individualized adjustments.”

These detailed assessments are shared with the entire technical staff, allowing them to take swift action to prevent injuries before they occur. The goal? Reduce injury-related absences by as much as 30%, safeguarding both player health and club performance.

"Technology gives us the ability to run multi-source, individualized analyses in seconds,” says Sven Mueller, Marketing Director at CUJU, an AI platform with more than 100,000 users that specializes in identifying young football talent. “This not only helps players reach their peak physical and mental performance but also allows clubs to anticipate player development, injury risk, and even market value.”

The financial benefits are clear: a typical injury can sideline a player for three to six weeks, affecting match outcomes and club revenue. Prevention, therefore, is now viewed as a strategic tool in achieving seasonal success.

"Today, combining high-tech tools with scientific understanding and tailored athlete care is essential,” says Túlio Horta, COO of Volt Sports Science. “AI is becoming a critical asset by consolidating diverse data streams to enhance not only training and recovery but also areas like sports psychology and neuroscience.”

Artificial Intelligence isn’t just transforming how football is played; it’s revolutionizing how clubs protect and maximize their most valuable assets: their players.
