Later, Mbappé was on the receiving end of a dangerous tackle from behind by Carlos Romero, who made no attempt to play the ball and caught the Frenchman with his studs on the calf. Despite the severity of the foul, Romero only received a yellow card—a decision that left Real Madrid in disbelief. Ironically, Romero went on to score the winning goal for Espanyol in the closing moments of the game.

Visibly frustrated, Mbappé chose not to address the media after the match. However, as reporters questioned him about Romero’s tackle, he responded with a telling gesture: placing his hand over his mouth in a zipper-like motion, signaling his decision to stay silent on the matter. Though he said nothing, his gesture spoke volumes, reflecting the outrage shared by the entire Real Madrid squad over one of the most contentious moments of the season.
